Updated Africa Connectivity Map

Africa Connectivity MapI’ve updated the Connectivity Map to include landline and cell phone stats. The old link is no longer working. The purpose of the tool is to show how connected a country is based on total population, number of internet users, 2005 growth in user-base, overall population penetration, and landline/cell phone usage. The data comes from the Internet World Stats and the Human Development Reports/UNDP sites.

  1. […] Update: The Connectivity Map has been updated and is now located here. I created a Google Maps Mashup that I call the Africa Internet Connectivity Map. The purpose of the tool is to show how connected a country is based on total population, number of internet users, 2005 growth in user-base, and overall population penetration. The data comes from the Internet World Stats site, but I’m always on the lookout for additional/better data and will soon be expanding to include wireless phone penetration. I admit it, I’m a map addict. So, you add my other addiction which is information on connectivity in Africa and layer it on a map… well, I’m in nirvana. :)

Anyway, GREAT map! I find myself getting lost in it.

Saw this map over at Hash’s blog - I am just dropping by to say thanks because this map contains info that I have been trying to find for some time.

hey mama junkyard — glad the map was of use to you!…

also, know that you can add comments to the map postings by clicking on the country’s name within the map…right now, for example, i’m trying to track down the locations of internet cafes, but that data is impossible to find…so if you know of any, please post!

    peace,
